When we look at the concept of "planting and watering" it appears that the verse on sowing and reaping comes to mind in John 4:38 where they were "reaping what they had not worked for". This shows not only Christ sowing the seed but those who were co laborers (in this case the woman who had been living in adultery and the townspeople that discussed matters and made their own decision that Christ was indeed the promised Messiah.

What is noteworthy here are two concepts that can be illustrated starting in verse 10. Those who do the watering AND the sowing are not to be lifted up in any prideful manner. Christ was to be exalted; not Paul or Apollos as being the "better" teacher. Also; those doing the watering share in the reward which is often neglected with evangelistic campaigns today that don't continue afterwards with proper discipleship particularly with indigenous pastors on the ground today; or with crusades in the USA recently.

The famous passage about the Bema Seat in verse 15 appears tied in with the watering aspect; and seems to give further indication in the verses following that sin indeed causes burning up and loss. Many seem to say it means simply neutral actions that have no value such as activities done in church that aren't meaningful. It seems perfectly clear here that it indicates sin; and that which can damage others. I would refer to Matthew 5:19 as a cross reference here. It is clear from verse 16 also that events such as 1 Cor. 11:27 and 1 Cor. 5:5 serve as examples as well in the same book. Finally see Rev. 3:11. Losing a reward is a serious matter.

    1 Corinthians 3,

    1 Corinthians 3:6,

References to Matthew 13, Mark 4, Luke 8, referring to the WORD of GOD as seed & kingdom of heaven as seed.

He planted= told about Jesus CHRIST kingdom of heaven, the WORD of salvation

Apollos watered= the other guy continued ministering to the people.

    Hopefully these are helpful

    Wesley's Notes for 2 Corinthians 4:4

4:4 The God of this world - What a sublime and horrible description of Satan! He is indeed the god of all that believe not, and works in them with inconceivable energy. Hath blinded - Not only veiled, the eye of their understanding. Illumination - Is properly the reflection or propagation of light, from those who are already enlightened, to others. Who is the image of God - Hence also we may understand how great is the glory of Christ. He that sees the Son, sees the Father in the face of Christ. The Son exactly exhibits the Father to us.

    People's Bible Notes for 2 Corinthians 4:4

2Corinthians 4:4 The god of this world. See John 12:31,40 Php 3:19. Satan is called the prince of this world, and the god of this world. Hath blinded the minds of them which believe not. By his devices he blinds the eyes of men so they should not see the light of gospel. The image of God. He who would see God may see him in the face of Christ. See Joh 14:9.

Dear Dianne, your response is a straw man fallacy, because you refuted an argument I didn't make. I shed light on the massive deaths from the experimental covid injection. I didn't say anything bad about the medical field. Are you a doctor? Do you deny that people have been hurt or killed from it? If you agree that even 1 person has been hurt then by definition it is not "safe." But the fact is this injection has killed more just in the partial year it's been available than all other vaccines in the history of the United States.

A typical vaccine trial will be ended if 5-10 people die. But this one more than 14 thousand. They would NOT have died if they didn't take it. They took it because of bullies coercing them to. If my elderly mom took this based on a comment that it was "safe" and died, would anyone apologize? Do all the bullies ever come to realize how many have died as a result of their bullying? Sadly the CDC doesn't even count the deaths as a vaccine death if its 14 days or less after the vaccine- which is when most deaths occur. They will call it an unvaccinated death from covid. There are very dishonest and very evil things happening right now. Also the FDA approved "vaccine" isn't even the one the public is taking. The "approved" one isn't even on the market and are separate "products." This info is direct from the FDA website.

Also all the "covid deaths" the leftist propaganda media brags about isn't even true. The CDC's own website says in fine print that only 5% of those deaths are from covid. 95% of the deaths reported isn't from covid- they are labeling normal deaths from normal causes as covid to fear monger and push the false narrative. God talked about a strong delusion and I've never seen so much delusion in my lifetime. It's horrifying that people are dying because of the lies. But God is a fair judge and I know many people will receive their due punishment for their sins. Everyone should turn their life to Jesus before it's too late.

Adam With all due respect are you in the medical profession do you understand everything involved in making medications, the medical profession is there for a purpose and not everything they do is [evil] that's passing a lot of judgement considering I know christians in the medical field. Until I would tell people to not do something in regards to that specific subject matter nothing in the medical field is perfect. I recently had to have an ACDF surgery done to my neck because my spinal cord was getting pressed when working in the spine there is no guarantee because its so complicated the guy who was doing the surgery told me up front if I don't do the surgery I would be paralyzed in 2 months but He could even do the surgery and it still might not work but He was honest. He did the surgery and I still have full function. I had to believe God that He was the right man for the job. If an individual can believe God to protect them so be it, but that they have to answer because that's between them and God. I'm not here to tell you what to believe or not to believe about that specifically but to tell someone else or to lay judgement on the entire medical field for what there trying to do is insanity. Read Romans 14 its up to the individual.

I agree with much of your comment on covid , so much more could be said . There are many natural herbs that will not harm you and will scare off all viruses. To name a few Oregano , garlic, turmeric, some times alcohol, and more . Masks do not work . They only hurt the one using it , you are breathing your own dirt .

    Hi Nancy,

It's immoral and a sin to harm God's holy temple and our physical bodies are that. I believe it's wrong to take recreational drugs, to overeat and become obese, to get drunk, or take anything else that can harm or compromise our health. Unfortunately, the covid injections they call vaccines aren't real vaccines. More than fourteen thousand have died just in the US and half a million injuries.

So, I personally feel it is a sin to bully and manipulate people to take an experimental injection that could kill them. I also believe it's a sin to take it. People in fear are choosing something man-made rather than trusting what God made. A hardly tested, experimental drug with unknown long term consequences people are taking instead of simply eating right and exercising to trust the strong God-given immune system.

Mean people are still pushing the injection on people who have already had covid, which is just ridiculous. There is no upside and all downside. Plus when they get it, it compromises immune systems and they start getting sick easier, which is why covid spiked and is spread mostly by the "vaccinated." Propagandists are angry with people calling out what is happening and will deny it of course. They also worry about their own legal liability and are doing all kinds of evil to justify hurting more people.

The pharma companies are getting rich of this- an FDA manager just was hired to Pfizer, and Pfizer helped fund the Wuhan corona virus lab which made the released the virus in the first place. People get angry when confronted with the horrors of sin, but there are many people who know how to research and have countless sources of evidence showing the reality. Government allowed pharma to not have any legal liability- if its so safe why do they need legal immunity?

Pray that people will stop taking the injection which has killed and hurt so many. It is an absolute horror show tragedy and is hard to comprehend why people don't care.

  • Dianne - In Reply on 1 Corinthians 3 - 2 years ago
Earl With all due respect to dictate to someone that if it they take it and its Gods will that they die isn't loving to say the least or scriptural, you show me in the scriptures where that's speaking the truth in love and I'll eat the book. My bible say that's between God and the individual, because I don't know where their heart and believing is and neither do you or any body else. God Bless

Sister Nancy, may CHRIST IN US grace us with HIS wisdom and HIS understanding.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 To everything there is a season, and a (God's) time to every purpose under the heaven:

Ecclesiastes 3:2 A (God's) time to be born, and a (God's) time to die.....

God is SOVEREIGN, nothing happens without God CAUSING IT. He uses Satan and man TO DO HIS WORK.

Philippians 2:13 For it is God that WORKETH in you (man) BOTH TO WILL and TO DO of his good pleasure.

Isaiah 54:16 .... I have created the waster to destroy.

You can take all the covid shots available and if God has PREDISINATED you to die from covid; you will die from covid.

On the other hand; you can stand in a crowd of thousands that are infected with covid, and if you were PREDESTINATED to live, you will live.

Few put their TRUST in God's word.

    Few TRUST GOD.

    Few think God CAUSES everything.

What's happening in GOD'S WORLD are HIS TRIALS and HIS JUDGEMENTS.

It's for our GOOD (even though it appears very bad).

These trials and judgements CAUSE us to TRUST GOD.

Hi Nancy You will not find scripture to justify what you want to do that's up to you and your personal walk with God Romans 14 if that's what you believe but have no doubt at all about your decision. Personally if I was not physically compromised I would be getting the shot, but again that's strictly between you and God. So the point is ask Father.

Jim the.disciple of Christ, 1 Corinthians 3. I have feed you with milk, and not with meat. For hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. For whereas there is among you. Envying, and, strife, and division, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? For while one saith I am of Paul; and another; I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal.? When men have to make hard choices we often forget our duty. Life is not about doing any and everything your heart desire . Then when you are

Sleep -- dead no man can repent of their sin. Life is full of hard choices, be wise follow Jesus, stay in the word , let God led you and guide you

Tertius, as mentioned in Romans 16:22, we understand to have been the Apostle Paul's stenographer. We're unsure why Paul often didn't write his letters by his own hand; some think that it may have been his weak eyes ("his thorn in the flesh"). But he sometimes did write a salutation (appending some special greeting by his own hand) to his letters ( 1 Corinthians 16:21, Colossians 4:18, 2 Thessalonians 3:17).

  • Chris - In Reply on 1 Corinthians 3 - 3 years ago
I believe the portion of Scripture you're looking at in 1 Corinthians 3:10-17 has to do with Rewards that a believer receives when we stand before God in that final day. In other words, we as Christians, are already established on the firm Foundation which is Christ Jesus, so the question about mercy after this fact doesn't come into the picture.

Paul speaks about what we build upon this foundation. Many Christians will come before God empty-handed, as they have not done what God required of them. It doesn't mean evangelizing in foreign lands or holding large evangelistic crusades, or suffering at the hands of wicked men. It can be how faithful you have been, did you take the opportunities God gave you to witness for Him, or to serve His Church with gladness, to be a listening ear or praying heart to someone in need. Was your Christian life worthy of bearing Christ's Name? Some believers' works will abide under scrutiny (fire), but sadly, many will suffer loss of reward because of their disobedience & carnal living, BUT (v15) they will still be saved "yet so as by fire" (a modern rendering: 'by the skin of their teeth'). But this is not a good place to be in.

The Christian is the present day visible Temple of God on Earth - God expects we look after His Temple, refrain from sin, & present it holy before the world. If the Christian continues to defile (continuing in wilful sin) God's Temple, God will destroy him (i.e. the body will be removed - by death) - see also 1 Corinthians 5:5. This God has to do to bring to a halt such misbehaviour, just so that the believers' spirit might be saved. God has never put up with sin, & more so when we look at Israel's disobedience through the ages & the Christian's disregard to holy living. God gives us time & opportunity for us to come to our senses, to repent & turn away, but many who refuse, suffer under His Hand, as when some disregarded the Lord's Table, and so "many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep (die)."

What do verses 14 and 15 mean and vs 17 does that mean we can't find mercy or does it mean if we don't ask for mercy we will be judged.

    Thanks
